Compound Farmhouses are a series of communal residences in Wencun Village, a rural community in the northwest of Zhejiang Province. Situated between mountains and agricultural fields, the existing houses were in poor physical condition. Each new house was designed with unique structural and material features which are organized around private courtyards. The construction of compound buildings provided shared roof structures, public access ways, as well as private home entryways while respecting the existing character of the village.
